Devlog 9 : Particles, Breakables and more

Hiya pizza lovers!

This week we did a lot to catch up with what we needed to do, so let's take a look at what we did!

Art and Programming

This week we made sure our effects worked inside of the game.

First we did this for the destination where the pizza needs to be dropped off. We made sure with a beam it would be clear enough where the destination is. We're still going to tweek the particles next week.

Then we did it for the pickups such as the pepper pickup and the pizza pickup.

Then we also made sure we implemented the smoke for the scooters in the game.

As you can see we also implemented a splash particle for when you fall into the water. We're still going to refine this particle as well, but we just needed to have it already implemented in our game. As you can see, you respawn after you fall into the water and the pizza gets respawn as well if you were the one holding it.

We also implemented a particle for when the players bump into each other.

As you can see, you bump slightly off the train when you collide with it. We also implemented an explosion particle to show clearly when you bumped against it.

We also made sure the 4 different players who spawn in, have different colors so it's easier to see which player is which character.

We then made sure our speed pickup works. You can see that the speedbar goes fully up when you have the speedboost. You get a speedboost when you use the pepper. We're still going to tweak how fast it's going and for how long it's lasting. Also an animation plays off when you use it.

We also fixed the layout of our UI. We made sure that all of the text is just fonts. We made the icons smaller, we also made the border a lot thinner so its more readable to play. We made sure all of the icons were very saturated as well so it's more according to our artbible.

We also made sure there was a video playing in the background for both the start screen and the win screen

We then fixed the shader of our environment so its more aligned with our artbible, we can still tweak this to our liking next week.

We also worked a lot on making the environment way more fun to play in by:

1)  animating the environmental events:

The train rides along the track and the bridges open for the boat to pass. We made sure that they never cross each other at the same time

2) Implementing the destruction of small props

3) Making sure that if you drive against any static meshes that don't have physics, you bounce against

Sound

We also implemented the main theme music in our game and the sounds for the bridge.

That's all, catch you next week!!
